Heike Riel

Dr. Heike Riel is an IBM Fellow and serves as Head of Science & Technology and Lead of IBM Research Quantum Europe/Africa. In these roles, she oversees research in quantum computing, artificial intelligence physics, and semiconductor technologies. She holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Bayreuth and an MBA from Henley Business School. Her research has advanced the fields of nanoscale electronics, including work on semiconducting nanowires and OLEDs. In recognition of her contributions, she received the 2022 IEEE Andrew S. Grove Award and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering. She is also a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences.
