A native of Targówek and Praga-Północ. He is a graduate of the Institute of Polish Culture at the University of Warsaw. He is a member of the Catholic Intellectual Club and a founding member of the association Miasto Jest Nasze (MJN). From 2016 to 2021, he served as the chairperson of MJN, after which he became its secretary until 2022.
He has written and commented for platforms such as ngo.pl, Kultura Liberalna, Res Publica, Gazeta Stołeczna, Rzeczpospolita, Super Express, Fakt, and Polska Times. He works closely with non-governmental organizations, including the Stocznia Foundation and serves on the program council of the Park Rzeźby na Bródnie.
As a city activist Jan has been involved in various initiatives in Warsaw, including Otwarty Jazdów, Chlebem i Solą and Inicjatywa Wolna Białoruś. From September 2018, he worked at ClientEarth, focusing on climate protection campaigns. In 2022, he co-curated the Fight for Streets exhibition as part of the 14th edition of the Warszawa w Budowie festival, which was presented at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.
In May 2024, he was elected as a city councilor of Warsaw, representing the Targówek and Praga-Północ districts.
